How Drug Policy could be different



Synthetic drugs could be legalized, regulated, made safer, and/or have public awareness campaigns

Peyote could be protected for Native American religion / produced synthetically for others

Nature could be decriminalized

Prisoners could or could not have cell phones / tablets with restrictions

Natural miscarriages could not be prosecuted

Homelessness / drug addiction could be dealt with more comprehensively than "Housing First"

China and India could better monitor / regulate fentanyl drug production

Fentanyl test strips could be available faster

Mexico could improve its police, prison, social welfare / basic income, and justice systems to confront drug cartels

The drug trade through West Africa could cause instability

The U.S. could take additional steps to lower prison populations, cost, and excessive punishment

Drugs could be decriminalized with available treatment options

Marijuana could be legalized to help opioid addiction

Mandatory minimum and three strike sentencing laws could be reformed for nonviolent offenses

Homeless shelters or housing could allow drinking / drug use while providing treatment

Needle exchange programs could be more widely available and legal

The coca plant could be allowed to grow

Drug policy and government funds could focus on providing treatment and prevention rather than punishment
