"One immediate need is to have owners install automatic sprinkler systems, especially in attics, passageways, common areas and basements. Then, when financially reasonable, to install automatic fire doors. If feasible, they should then install 2-hour noncombustible fire-rated separation walls that extend from the basement up and beyond the roof line. These improvements should contain a fire to its room of origin."
